In Florida, ID cards are issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) Division of Driver Licenses office. An ID card proves your age, identity, or residence in many everyday activities.

Applying for a Florida ID Card

Renew Your Florida ID Card

In Person
If you're a current Florida identification cardholder but renewed online the last time, OR you're switching over to a REAL ID-compliant card, you must visit your local Division of Driver Licenses office for an in-person FL ID card renewal. You must show proof of your identity, Social Security number, and residential address.
Renewing your Florida ID card will cost you $25. Check with your local office to see which payment types are accepted.

Replace Your Florida ID Card
You may be eligible to replace your Florida ID card online or in person at any driver license office. If you don't currently have a REAL ID card, you'll need to replace your ID in person.
IMPORTANT: Non-REAL ID Cards
If you DO NOT currently hold a REAL ID-compliant card, you'll need to replace your ID in person.
If your ID was stolen, the replacement fee will be waived if you provide a copy of a police report. The fee to replace your FL ID is $25. You will pay an additional $2 convenience fee if you replace your ID online.

In-Person Replacement
The Division of Driver Licenses office will ask to see proof of your identity, Social Security number, and residential address. You will have to pay a replacement fee of $25.

Changing Your FL ID Card Information

Change of Address in Florida
The state of Florida requires all identification card cardholders to keep their addresses current within 30 days of moving. You may change the address on your Florida ID card onlineorin person at a Tax Collector's office.

Before you go to change the address on your Florida ID card at a Tax Collector's office, make an appointment online. You may need to show proof of citizenship or legal presence to receive a replacement Florida ID card if you are a non-citizen.

Name Change in Florida
Name changes on your Florida ID card must take place in person at your local driver license office.
NOTE: Non-citizens must possess an INS document that reflects the name change before visiting the Division of Driver Licenses.

Log on to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) website and access the Certificate of Degree of Indian or Alaska Native Blood Application and Instructions under the Document Library link in the top horizontal toolbar (see Resources).
Print the form. The BIA does not currently provide a way to submit the form online, so you will need to print out and submit the form via regular mail.
Complete the form following its included current directions. The ancestor-related questions take the shape of a family tree to help you understand the relationships.
Submit the form to the local office of your ancestral tribe. Your application will then be processed. The BIA must research the information you've provided; records are not always complete or easily accessible, so the processing may take some time.
